Our Counsellors

John Soutar

I firmly believe in the compassionate and non-judgemental nature of counselling and honed my active listening skills with 30 years public service in the emergency services and helped in a range of ways with the difficulties that trauma can bring to families.

Alison Todd

I have a strong belief in social justice and a commitment to support those who have found themselves disadvantaged and marginalised through no fault of their own. I have deep understanding of childhood trauma and its impact in later years.

Pluralistic therapy

Pluralistic therapy and therapists acknowledge that every person is unique and have diverse needs, preferences, and interests. A key tenet of pluralistic therapy is that therapy works best when tailored to the individual.

A pluralistic therapist will be committed to getting to know you and understanding your experiences and what you find helpful and unhelpful.

  • What brings you to therapy?
  • What are the main challenges you are facing.
  • What you currently find helpful and supportive, this could be spiritual activities, physical activities, community, family, and friends.
  • Your likes and dislikes.
  • Your goals, hope and wishes for the future and what you want to achieve from therapy.
  • Your current strengths and areas you would like to strengthen.

  • What are your current coping strategies?
  • Your past experiences and how you think these have impacted on you today.
  • What you find helpful and useful in your life, the therapist will see these as helpful resources (like friends and family and community).
  • Cultural or religious beliefs.
  • Your background and identity.
  • Relationships past and present.
